The Moroccan Capital Market Authority participated in the 38th meeting of Africa &Middle East Regional Committee of the International Organization of Securities Commissions1(AMERC, a committee created in 1992 to bring together financial market regulators from Africa & Middle East, IOSCO Members) held on February 14th, and 15th, 2017 in Abu Dhabi, and chaired by Mr Mounir Gwarzo, Executive Commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Nigeria.
On this occasion, Ms. Nezha Hayat, Chairperson of the AMMC, shared the experience of the Moroccan regulator in accompanying green bonds issuances, as well as the various initiatives undertaken by the AMMC to promote the development of Sustainable finance.
The presentation of these commitments and actions carried out in the margins of the COP22 held in Marrakech allowed a come back to the AMMC road map for financing sustainable development by the capital markets and the establishment and signature of "Marrakech Pledge ", a commitment to the development of Green Capital Markets in Africa co-signed by 26 African countries represented by 19 of the continent Regulators and Stock Exchanges.
Mentoring operations such as the preparation and dissemination of the Green Bonds Guidelines for issuers and investors, as well as the organization of a Workshop bringing together regulators, Stock Exchanges and investors around the theme of Green Finance, on November 16th in Marrakech, have been implemented, and were met with a great interest among the audience.
The dynamism and achievements of the AMMC in promoting the financing of sustainable development were unanimously welcomed by the attending members who devoted part of their exchanges to the challenges and imperatives of a sustainable development of capital markets.
At the end of this 38th annual meeting of the AMERC Committee, and under the AMMC invitation, Morocco has been chosen as a host country of the 40th meeting of the Committee, which will take place in 2018 in Rabat.
